Privacy policy

What hoondy.com collects, why, and the choices you have.

Last updated

hoondy.com (“the site”) is the personal website of Donghoon Lee, run by Hoondy.com, LLC. This page explains what information the site and the services it uses collect when you visit, and what you can do about it. If anything here is unclear, email admin@hoondy.com.

The short version

  • There are no accounts and no sign-ups. You never have to give the site your name or email.
  • The site shows ads from Google AdSense and measures traffic with Google Analytics. Both use cookies.
  • If you submit a score to a weekly leaderboard, your nickname and score are public for that week.
  • Settings such as the dark theme are kept in your own browser.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

The digital billboards on this site are served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

When no paid ad is available, the billboards show promotions for the site’s own apps. Those don’t use cookies.

Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

The site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and how people find them. It collects things like the pages you view, your approximate location (city or country), your device and browser type, and the page that referred you. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Comments (Disqus)

Older blog posts have a comment section hosted by Disqus. Nothing from Disqus loads until you press Show comments. After that, Disqus’s own privacy policy applies to anything you do in the comment box.

Weekly leaderboards

Some apps, like the leadership test and Rush Hour, have weekly leaderboards. Submitting a score is optional. When you do, the leaderboard service stores:

  • the nickname you type (pick anything; please don’t use your full real name if you’d rather stay anonymous),
  • your score and a few game details shown on the board (for example the stage you reached),
  • the country your connection comes from, derived from your IP address and shown as a flag,
  • a salted, one-way hash of your IP address, used to limit spam and to keep one entry per player each week, and kept no longer than that requires. The IP address itself is not stored.

Boards reset every Monday at midnight New York time. Entries on the board are public. To have an entry removed, email admin@hoondy.com with the nickname, game and week.

Stored in your browser

The site uses your browser’s local storage (not cookies) for a few conveniences: your light or dark theme choice, the nickname you last used, your personal best scores, and in-progress app state. It never leaves your device unless you submit a score. Clearing your browser’s site data removes all of it.

Other services

  • Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests them from Google’s servers.
  • Videos in some old posts are embedded from YouTube, which may set its own cookies when you play them.
  • Hosting is provided by GitHub Pages, which may keep standard server logs.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
